In designing these new tubes, Jurij Shumakov opened the way to a new generation of tube flies. They present many advantages, easy to tie, extremely effective and can survive many takes. The tubes can be combined with any type or size of hook, single, double or treble, using silicone tubing. Once you have got a fish on the hook you can easily remove the fly body, still being intact as it stays out of fish jaws and teeth.
Some metal bodies have three or four slots that can be varnished in different colours which makes the tube look more attractive and exciting than a naked one. Although Shumakov Tubes are very effective and certainly make anglers happy, they are also gentler to salmon than traditional flies. Due to their construction, gills damage caused by a deep take of fly is minimized and thus many salmon lives are saved. Fish will live happily longer, grow up to king size salmons and give you fishermen a chance to beat your previous records!

At the same time, if these grooves are dyed with a different colour (I tried red and black), the body doesn`t look as naked as on other brands. The Skittle brass tube is the one with the best balance among all heavy tubes. It has enough weight at the front end to push the fly down and hold it firmly in the current. The rear part is thin, and not that different from the so-called "US tubes" "The Fly Co". Front cone helps to hold fur up and mount wing at the best angle. Hair of wing stays far from the hook, so it helps prevent tangling. One variant has grooves on the rear part of the thickening, which can be dyed.
